Since June 2017, METAdrasi implements a non-formal educational programme called “Step2school” at METAdrasi’s premises as well as at schools in urban area of Athens serving more than 3,150 students since its beginning. “Step2School” is addressed to minors aged 4 to 17 that live in temporary hosting facilities. The programme also accepts minors from accommodation facilities and welcomes other children that live in the neighbourhood.

The programme provides remedial education in the form of afternoon support classes, which emphasize language acquisition, mathematics, and homework support. With classes delivered by METAdrasi’s experienced educational staff, the programme establishes a framework of support for the integration of refugee and migrant children.

During the running period and due to Covid-19, all the lessons take place on-line.

Lessons for children aged 4-17 take place weekdays, 14:00-20:00, at METAdrasi’s premises or/and in a specially designed space in the center of Athens.

Since March 2020 and due to the pandemic, all the enrollments take place on-line by email to mkaraitidi@metadrasi.org & ndimitrouka@metadrasi.org. Otherwise, enrollments take place at METAdrasi’s offices in Tavros (7, 25 Martiou Street, 1st floor, “Kallithea” train station), Monday to Friday 10:00-17:00.

Since summer 2020 educational programmes for refugees and migrants in Athens are also funded by Liu Kuo-Chun Educational Foundation, Hong Kong. Since September 2021 the programme is funded by UNICEF under the All Children in Education action.
During the implementation of the entire programme, the contribution of volunteers is invaluable.
