Children Friendly Spaces set up by METAdrasi in Athens and Thessaloniki

How can refugee parents with small children stand on their own two feet? How can they learn Greek when they have nowhere to leave their children? How can the children of refugees integrate into the Greek school system normally?

The Children Friendly Spaces set up by METAdrasi in Athens and Thessaloniki provide a solution to these important problems of integration. Spaces where free expression, creativity, teamwork, play and laughter are the ingredients of education.

While the parents are in class, or working, their children, from 4 to 6 years old are, in these special METAdrasi spaces, employed daily in various activities, such as musical therapy, team games, building activities, crafts and, of course, learning Greek. Thus these children, who are at a critical age, are given the possibility to widen their horizons and acquire reserves, just like any other child, with which to face the challenges ahead of them, when the time comes to enter the school system.

Since September 2021 the programme is funded by UNICEF Greece under the All Children in Education action.
