“These were the best 40 minutes of my life!” exclaimed Nabil* at the final whistle of the basketball game of the Elite League-Henry Dunant Championship, between Panerythraikos BC and GS Hermes Schimatari.
On Saturday, April 6, and on the occasion of the International Day of Sport for Development and Peace, Nabil, along with forty children from Schimatari (refugee children and children of the local community), were in the stands of the Municipal Indoor Gymnasium of Nea Erythraia “Stelios Kalaitzis” to watch the basketball game. The event was held in the framework of “Together in Sport – Phase II” with the valuable support of the Hellenic Basketball Federation and Action 24 TV Channel.
Dribbles, assists, three-point shots excited the children who never stopped encouraging the athletes with their applause, while their presence in the stands sent their own message of peaceful coexistence.
We would like to thank the teams Panerythraikos AS and GS Ermis Schimatari for providing tickets to the children.
* The name has been changed for the protection of the child.
