After 7 years of tackling, mainly on a volunteer basis, the growing emergency needs for interpretation in hospitals all over Greece, METAdrasibegan, in March 2018, the provision of interpretation to healthcare services via daily presence, with support from the European Commission’s Civil Protection and Humanitarian Aid Department (ECHO).
Recently, the activity was expanded, with the addition of interpretation in Arabic via telephone, during night hours (23:00-07:00, Monday to Friday), while the collaborating hospitals are increasing.
As of March 2018, the specially trained interpreters/intercultural mediators ofMETAdrasi have facilitated the communication of 8.593 beneficiaries with the medical staff in 33 inland hospitals, in 22 languages, mostly in Arabic (70%).
