Responding to the constant rise of the needs in Chios, that exist since June 2016, METAdrasi covers the needs for the protection of unaccompanied minors with the operation of the Transit Accommodation Facility for unaccompanied minors and the activity of the Guardianship Network for Unaccompanied Minors, while at the same time METAdrasi supports the efforts of the Authorities, acting in the area.

Since August 2017, the Transit Accommodation Facility in Chios is being supported within the framework of a Programme funded by Stavros Niarchos Foundation.

Aim of the activity is the minimization and even the eradication of minors staying in detention centers or under precarious conditions (refugee camps, homelessness), their substantial protection from trafficking networks and the dynamic pursue of a viable solution for each minor on the basis of child’s best interests.

At the same time, with the support of Stavros Niarchos Foundation, the shelter’s activities are intensified on a 24-hour basis, and the safety network for unaccompanied minors is fortified.

Additionally, safe housing and a complete set of services is provided in order to meet their daily needs and support the children hosted in the shelter. To that end, specialized scientists support the activities on the basis of each child’s best interests, in order to promote the national and European objective for the smooth and effective integration of the refugee populations into the reception member states’ societies.

The continuation of the programme is of vital importance for meeting the daily changing needs.
