For the first time in several years, the unaccompanied children located in the camps of the five Eastern Aegean islands and at the Reception and Identification Center in Fylakio, Evros, are less than a hundred. Lately, METAdrasi has accompanied hundreds of children to and across the mainland, from where they are expected to relocate to other European countries.
In these difficult conditions, we were by their side. With our teams in the Safe Area, the Authorized Guardians, the teachers who tried with dedication to develop the children’s skills, to teach them Greek, math, geography, the history of the island where they lived, Greek and European culture…
One course that will remain unforgettable to the children was that of robotics; an excellent idea by an inspiring member of our team in Kos. With great enthusiasm the children attended technology and design lessons and with the help of our talented teacher, in a short time they learned to read the instructions and managed to assemble the first robot in the hotspot! They learned about solar energy, motor and mechanical accessories, to cooperate and of course, to discover their potentials and gain confidence. And playing with their creation, they lost track of time. Just for a few hours every day.
We hope that the skills and knowledge they gained will stay with them on their journey and accompany them to the country which they will finally call home. We wish them good luck!
