On the occasion of the celebration of the International Day of Sport for Development and Peace, three activities were organized within the framework of “Together in Sport” project in the cities of Athens, Kavala, Ioannina and Drama.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

In Athens<\/strong>, sixty-one (61) children from the 132nd Elementary School of Grava got acquainted with track and field sports in Kallimarmaro, the stadium where the first modern Olympic Games took place.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

Forty (40) refugee children from the refugee Hospitality Structure of Kavala <\/strong>and kids from the local community were welcomed by the Kavala Basketball Association, aiming to learn more about basket. The young athletes of the academy approached the children with great care, explaining the rules and techniques of the sport, both in theory and in practice. The children, under the guidance of the coaches, applied with enthusiasm defense and offence techniques in court, taking part in competitive games but also in a “double game” of basketball training.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

In Ioannina <\/strong>thirty six (36) children from the 9th Intercultural Elementary School actively participated in an interactive wrestling demonstration that took place at Athletic Club SPARTACUS. Under the supervision of the coaches of the club, the children experimented with grappling holds and pin techniques and workouts that combined gymnastics with fun.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

In Drama<\/strong>, girls and boys, from 4 to 12 years old, participated in a handball practice. For some of the children it was their first contact with this sport. Running, flexibility of movement, speed, fast thinking, teamwork and cooperation with the other children: everyone was thrilled with this special practice.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

A common feature of the athletic activities in all the cities was the laughter and the expressions of enthusiasm of the children, who declared emphatically not only how much fun they had but also declared their wish to return soon to practice!<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n

\r\n\r\n\r\n

\u201cTogether in Sport\u201d, initiated and co-funded by the\u00a0German Federal Office for Migration and Refugees<\/a>, is implemented by METAdrasi in cooperation with the Hellenic Olympic Committee, the\u00a0German Olympic Sports Confederation<\/a>\u00a0and the participation of municipalities all over Greece. The project is co-funded by the Asylum, Migration and Integration Fund (AMIF).<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n
