Getting to know the Olympic sports at the Athens National Gymnastics Center
\n<\/strong>In October, students of the 132nd Primary School of Athens were introduced to Olympic sports such as basketball, laser run, acrobatics, boxing, and handball. The children played, exercised, interacted and had fun following the instructions of expert coaches in the beautiful space of the Athens National Gymnastics Center \u201cIoannis Fokianos\u201d. At the end of the sports activity, the children received the medal of the project and other souvenirs to remember the day.<\/p>\n

Athens, 20 Years Later
\n<\/strong>In September, \u201cTogether in Sport \u2013 Phase II\u201d gave the opportunity to refugee children from shelters in Athens to attend the award ceremony of the 2004 Olympians and the protagonists of the famous conquest of the Euro in football. The beautiful celebration was attended and honored by the Olympic and Paralympic medalists of this year\u2019s Paris Olympics, while there was lots of music and a wonderful spectacle, with the presence of well-known artists.<\/p>\n

\u201cTogether in Sport \u2013 Phase II\u201d at to the Peace and Friendship Stadium!
\n<\/strong>The students of the 133rd Primary School of Athens had the opportunity to learn, have fun and socialize through Olympic sports such as Hanball, Beach volley, Boxing and Tennis. All this in cooperation with coaches of the \u201cOlympiacos FC\u201d Sports Club, in the beautiful facilities of the Peace and Friendship Stadium. As always, the participants received their medal and other gifts!<\/p>\n

Friendly football match at Platonos Academy
\n<\/strong>The first friendly football match of the season between METAdrasi and Kolonos FC took place at the end of October. The children of both teams had the opportunity to compete and socialize through football in a friendly match which is to be repeated, as players and coaches enjoyed it. At the \u201cfinal whistle\u201d the children shook hands, received gifts and took photos together. We will see them at the next friendly!<\/p>\n

Introduction to Taekwondo in Lesvos
\n<\/strong>100 children met in the courtyard of the Central High School of Mytilene, to learn from each other the sport of Taekwondo. Under the guidance of the experienced taekwondo coach, Andreas Alifragis, the children of the local community started with demonstrations of the sport, while then they took on the role of coach to the refugee children, showing them basic moves. Smiles of togetherness and sportsmanship filled the place, and at the end everyone was awarded the \u201cTogether in Sport \u2013 Phase II\u201d medal, with surprise gifts!<\/p>\n

At the Thessaloniki International Fair with the Olympian Dora Gountoura and the Panhellenic champion, Sotiris Anifantis
\n<\/strong>The unique sport event \u201cDiscovering the sport of fencing\u201d of the \u201cTogether in Sport \u2013 Phase II\u201d project was hosted at the stand of the Representation of the European Commission in Greece, at the Thessaloniki International Fair. With the Olympian, Dora Gountoura and the Panhellenic champion, Sotiris Anifantis, unaccompanied children from shelters of Thessaloniki together with children of the city (members of the Scouts), got acquainted with the Olympic sport of fencing.<\/p>\n

Memorandum of cooperation with the Municipality of Athens<\/strong>
\nOn September 5th, the Mayor of Athens, Haris Doukas, the President of METAdrasi, Lora Pappa, the President of the Hellenic Olympic Committee, Spyros Capralos, and the President of the Culture, Sports and Youth Organization of the City of Athens, Eleni Zonderou, signed a Memorandum of Cooperation.

\n<\/strong>Following the excellent cooperation that has been developed through the implementation of the \u201cTogether in Sport \u2013 Phase II\u201d project, the Mayor of Mytilene, Panagiotis Christofas and the President of METAdrasi, Lora Pappa, signed on Monday 9 September 2024, a Memorandum of Cooperation, which was later co-signed by the President of the Hellenic Olympic Committee, Spyros Capralos.

Weekly sports and cultural activities in Attica
\n<\/strong>The weekly sports and cultural activities for our young friends continue with undiminished interest. The programme was rich: football, volleyball, taekwondo and cricket for the athletes and hip-hop and percussion for the artists!<\/p>\n

\n<\/strong>The children in Mytilene are eagerly awaiting when the next volley training session will take place. Serving, passing and defence are just some of the secrets of the sport they are discovering under the guidance of their coaches.<\/p>\n

\u201cTogether in Sport \u2013 Phase II\u201d is implemented by METAdrasi (project coordinator), the\u202fHellenic Olympic Committee<\/a>, and the\u202fGerman Olympic Sports Confederation\u202f(DOSB<\/a>). The\u202fGerman Federal Office for Migration and Refugees\u202f(BAMF<\/a>) supports with coordination and co-funding. The project is also co-funded by the AMIF (2021-2027). With the support of the General Secretariat for Vulnerable Persons & Institutional Protection of the\u00a0Ministry of Migration and Asylum<\/a>.<\/p>\n
