The unique sport event “Discovering the sport of fencing” of the “Together in Sport – Phase II” project was hosted at the stand of the Representation of the European Commission in Greece, at the Thessaloniki International Fair.

With the Olympian, Dora Gountoura and the Panhellenic champion, Sotiris Anifantis, unaccompanied children from shelters of Thessaloniki together with children of the city (members of the Scouts), got acquainted with the Olympic sport of fencing. Under the guidance of the distinguished athletes, with masks and swords, the children discovered the “magic” of this exciting sport.

Once again, through sport, the children showed to everyone what “acceptance” and “inclusion” really mean.

The event was honoured by the presence of the Mayor of Thessaloniki and Vice-President of the Hellenic Olympic Committee, Mr Stelios Angeloudis.

We warmly thank Ms Antonia Psyrra and Ms Mary Panoussi from the European Commission for the invitation, and we promise to continue our cooperation through actions for the benefit of children and young people.

“Together in Sport – Phase II” is implemented by METAdrasi (project coordinator), the Hellenic Olympic Committee, and the German Olympic Sports Confederation (DOSB). The German Federal Office for Migration and Refugees (BAMF) supports with coordination and co-funding. The project is also co-funded by the AMIF (2021-2027). With the support of the General Secretariat for Vulnerable Persons & Institutional Protection of the Ministry of Migration and Asylum.
