For the past 15 years, METAdrasi has been addressing interpretation needs in hospitals and healthcare institutions throughout Greece through specially trained and certified interpreters and intercultural mediators.
In this context, starting in February 2026 and for a duration of three years, METAdrasi is providing intercultural mediation services in healthcare facilities in the South Aegean Region through the project “Provision of Intercultural Mediation Services in Health Services in the South Aegean Region”, under the “South Aegean 2021–2027” Programme and co-funded by the European Social Fund Plus (ESF+). This project aims to remove linguistic and cultural barriers and facilitate communication between doctors, nursing staff, administrative services, and migrants, refugees, and asylum seekers, thereby contributing to equal access to healthcare services and improving the quality of care provided.
Intercultural mediation services, whether remote and/or in person, are provided in the following healthcare facilities, which serve a large number of migrants and refugees:
- State Infirmary – General Hospital – Health Center of Leros
- General Hospital – Health Center of Kos “Hippocrateion”
- General Hospital of Thira
- General Hospital of Rhodes
The action also covers the other healthcare facilities of the South Aegean Region.
The main languages of support are: Arabic, Farsi, Dari, Georgian, Russian, Urdu, Pashto, French, Sorani, Kurmanji, Somali, as well as other languages when needed.
