A touching gesture by the unaccompanied children of METADrasi’s Chios shelter

13.08.2021

“What can we do to help?” the unaccompanied children of our Transit Accommodation Facility in Chios, ask us anxiously, hearing about the devastating wildfires.

In the past few days, the children are following the news about the huge damages caused by the fires in Greece, with obvious concern on their faces. They hear about the houses and forests that are being burned, the families that are left on the streets, the animals that are being lost, the crops that are being reduced to ashes, the children that are experiencing this situation…

With their pocket money, they bought food items and offered them to the Chios community based collection point for essential items in order to be delivered to those affected by the fires, to help them in these difficult times. Because these children know what it is like to lose your home, to be on the streets without anything of your own, to be a child and experience such moments, to be afraid for your future…

We thank you with all our hearts for making us proud once again and we hope that your actions will be an example for all of us.
