Christmas preparations in our shelter in Chios

The lockdown from one side, the children’s normal impatience from the other, this year we started early on our preparations for Christmas at the Transit Accommodation Facility for Unaccompanied Minors in Chios.

Our children covered the tables with colors, glitter, brushes, cardboards, clay, plaster, stones, wood and whatever else they found that they could turn into a decorative ornament and started working feverishly inspired by the spirit of Christmas.

Christmas cards, calendars, charms, keychains, press papier, tiny ornaments, wreaths, and paintings filled every corner of the house in order to dry and then get repainted until they take their final form.

The children, at the end of the lockdown, plan to gift their creations to friends, acquaintances, teachers, and also to the people who love and care for them. Their temporary family…
