Metadrasi - METAdrasi Vicky

Vicky, volunteer at METAdrasi’s initiatives for people experiencing homelessness in Athens, talks about her experience.

What inspired you to become a volunteer?
I wanted to support people in need, because I believe that helping someone who truly needs it also helps you grow as a person. When I discovered METAdrasi’s wide range of initiatives, I felt that the organization genuinely reflects the true meaning of offering to others, and it gave me a strong sense of purpose.

What does your volunteer work include?
I participate in the organization’s initiatives that support people experiencing homelessness in Athens. My main responsibilities include sorting, packing, and distributing food, clothing, and personal hygiene items to those in need. I also take part in English classes for adults, which I find particularly rewarding.

What do you think you have gained from this experience?
Through my participation, I have gained a deeply meaningful experience, along with the unique sense of fulfillment that comes from helping others. At the same time, I feel that I have grown significantly as a person.

Would you like to share any thoughts or feelings about your contribution?
I feel very grateful to have had the opportunity to contribute to METAdrasi. This experience has helped me grow, not only through the act of giving, but also through connecting with people who share the same commitment to helping others.

Is there a specific experience that will always stay with you?
So far, there is not one particular moment that stands out above the rest. What stays with me most is the smile and hope in people’s eyes when they receive support and a chance to begin again.
