With the beginning of the new school year, nearly one hundred of METAdrasi’s students in Lesvos and in Chios were integrated into the Reception Structures for Refugee Education (DYEP) of the Greek Ministry of Education.

This integration has been achieved following our co-operation with the Ministry’s Refugee Education Coordinators (REC): METAdrasi informed RECs about the academic profile of each student and provided interpretation services in order to facilitate the process of issuing student’s personal health booklets.

Furthermore, METAdrasi added homework support classes for children who attend DYEP. Many of our students have already learned the Greek and the English alphabets, syllables and words, have gained ease at oral speech, while some can even compose whole sentences in Greek.

Meanwhile, METAdrasi continues to provide a comprehensive programme of Non-Formal Education including Greek, Mathematics and English courses, for refugee and migrant children that have not yet been integrated into Formal Education.

In total, more than 450 children benefit, on a daily basis, from METAdrasi’s educational activities on Lesvos and Chios, which are implemented with the support of UNHCR.
