On the occasion of the International Day in Support of Victims of Torture and in the framework of the programme “Hope and Memory: Identification and Certification of Victims of Torture”, METAdrasi held on Saturday 26/6 in Syntagma Square, the first of a series of actions aimed at raising awareness and informing the public about the issue of torture.
The public responded positively and many of our fellow citizens showed their interest in getting informed about this serious issue that they seemed to ignore.
We warmly thank our volunteers who, despite the unbearable heat, remained tireless throughout the event, as well as the Municipality of Athens for the relevant permit.
Since 2011, METAdrasi is the only body in Greece that certifies victims of torture, while the procedure followed is based on the “Istanbul Protocol”. To date, more than 1,510 individuals have been certified by METAdrasi.
The programme “Hope and Memory: Identification and Certification of Victims of Torture” is implemented in the framework of the programme Active Citizens Fund.
