The estimated number of international migrants has increased over the past decades. In 2020 the number of migrants globally rose to 281 million, which equates to 3.60% of the global population.
Migration has been a central element in the adaptation of human beings to environmental conditions as well as to societal, economic and political challenges. Mobility of people changed the world in past centuries and it will continue to do so in the future.
Pope Francis during his latest visit in Lesvos stressed this issue by saying that “The migration and refugee crisis is a global issue, humanitarian issue that relates to all of us. Migration is about human beings, human lives. This is about everyone’s future, which will be peaceful only if everyone is included.”
Let’s all work together on making this world a better and more inclusive place.
