Metadrasi - METAdrasi Stepping stone 1 1

M. and A., refugees from Sudan, participated in the Job Fair held in Lesvos last Thursday. With the help of our Stepping Stone team, they had already prepared themselves to be interviewed by employers and had their CVs ready. On the spot, an employer from Mykonos offered them job. At one o’clock in the afternoon, the deal was made. At four o’clock the ship was leaving for Mykonos. Without delay, METAdrasi’s job counselor and interpreter made the necessary arrangements for these two people to leave the Reception and Identification Center, get permission to travel and get a ticket. Finally, they accompanied them to the port, bidding them farewell with their warmest wishes to succeed in this new opportunity.

M. and A. are two of the dozens of refugees who participated in the third of a series of successful Job Fairs held in Kos, Samos and Lesvos, in cooperation with UNHCR, local authorities and many other organisations.

In total, more than 400 refugees and asylum seekers participated in the three Job Fairs which acted as a “bridge” connecting refugees seeking employment with local businesses. During the meetings, the participants had the opportunity to speak directly with employers and submit their CVs. Many found jobs immediately, while many more are expected to be hired in the coming period in local businesses, taking a decisive step towards integration into the Greek labour market.
