Music builds bridges

At a time when things on the islands of the Eastern Aegean are becoming more introverted and difficult, the Chios Music Festival organized educational programs, in an effort to bring together the civilizations that coexist on the island with the locals.

The unaccompanied children housed in METAdrasi’s shelter participated and expressed their need for acceptance by the local community, either by singing together with local children the local songs “Susa” and “Militsa” or by performing the Smyrna refugee song “From a foreign and far out place” with the Arabic words of “Ghazali Ghazali”…

While METAdrasi, since August 2017, is struggling, without help or funding, to keep the unaccompanied minors’ shelters in Chios, Lesvos, Samos and Athens open, having already been forced to shut down the Thessaloniki shelter, the valuable support of the Stavros Niarchos Foundation, for the Chios shelter, is of crucial importance for the children housed in it.
