Restoring the truth about allegations against unaccompanied minors at the Reception and Identification Centre in Fylakio, Evros

16.09.2019

Metadrasi - metadrasi KYT evrosRegarding recent publications accusing three unaccompanied minors, residing in the Reception and Identification Center (RIC) of Fylakio Evros for attempting to rape a RIC nurse, we are citing the actual facts, based on the testimonies of METAdrasi’s Authorized Representatives of Unaccompanied Minors/Guardians who are permanently located at the site and of the RIC officer involved.

The three minors were escorted to the nurse’s office by a RIC officer, who remained with them throughout the examination, so the nurse was never left alone with the minors. Additionally, the minors never locked the door. There was no evidence of harassment, which is confirmed by the RIC officer who was present.

We deplore these publications, that come at a time when 150 unaccompanied minors are contained in the Reception Center, for a period of up to 7 months, waiting for a place in a proper accommodation facility, so that they can leave from the conditions in which they are.
