The unaccompanied children of our accommodation facility in Chios admire the mastic trees

30.11.2022

The unaccompanied children of our shelter in Chios had the opportunity to discover the miracle of the mastic trees and their “tears” during their visit to the famous Mastichochoria (Mastic Villages).

A mastic cultivator explained to them step by step how the cultivation and cleaning of the mastic is done, and introduced the children to the secrets of the work of preparing the mastic tree for harvesting the mastic oil. The children were really impressed with all these procedures that remain unchanged over the centuries.

But the best part of their visit was at the end, as they had the opportunity to observe up close how the mastic tree “tears up”, collect its drops and try its unique taste!
