The unaccompanied children of the Chios shelter learn about the importance of a healthy diet

26.10.2021

On the occasion of the World Food Day, METAdrasi’s Transit Accommodation Facility for Unaccompanied Minors in Chios, organized a seminar for the children in order to be informed and raise awareness on issues related to healthy eating habits.

The unaccompanied children learned about the importance of healthy eating, proper food intake and the benefits of the Mediterranean diet, which they seem to particularly like as it is quite close to the flavors form their home countries. But they did not stop there: at the same time, it was discussed what hours they should sleep, as sleep is directly related to the need for food consumption and the level of energy of the body during the day.

The children found the seminar very interesting, even when they discussed the harmful consequences of frequent and heavy consumption of sugar. At the end, they made various questions, focusing mainly on what foods they should consume while engaging in their favorite sport activities.

We warmly thank nutritionist Kelly Melitzani, who, with real interest and dedication, passed on her knowledge to the children of the accommodation facility.
