Kavala
In the stands for the national women’s basketball team – 14/11

Twenty-four children living in the Open Refugee Facility of Kavala had an unforgettable experience. Under the supervision of METAdrasi’s local coordinator, they went to the nearby city of Xanthi where they watched the basketball match between the women’s national team of Greece and the national team of Portugal for the qualifying phase of EuroBasket 2023.

It was the first time the children watched live the sport of basketball, which excited them. In fact, when the whole stadium stood up cheering “HELLAS”, the children were also standing up shouting with the people to encourage the team.

Watching a football match – 27/11

Unaccompanied minors from accommodation facilities of Ioannina and Zagori, had the opportunity to enjoy the football match between PAS Giannina and AEK at the National Stadium of Ioannina. The teenagers, despite the weather conditions, arrived much earlier at the meeting point, where souvenirs were given. The 33 minors watched the match with interest and enthusiasm, keeping several snapshots (photos and videos) on their mobile phones, while they had the opportunity to meet and make friends with their peers from other accommodation facilities.

Time for Tae Kwon Do
– 28/11
Seven children from apartments of semi-autonomous living, along with five Greek Tae Kwon Do athletes, participated in this special training. After everyone had warmed up, the athletes proceeded to demonstrate various techniques. Then the minors tried the same techniques. They all watched videos of Tae Kwon Do matches with great athletes. And at the end, souvenirs were distributed to all participants and to the amazing coach, who created a very friendly atmosphere by guiding and inspiring the children. They all expressed the desire to repeat the event and some of them said that they wanted to start practicing the sport on a regular basis.

A visit to the Athens Olympic Museum – 16/11

The students of the Primary School of Chalkoutsi and Malakassa participated in the tour that took place at the Olympic Museum. The children were thrilled with the narration about the Olympic sports. They were particularly curious about the Olympic torch, asking questions, such as when and where the first torch was created, etc. At the end of their visit, they watched a short video, where in 2 minutes they saw all the Olympic sports, inspiring them to choose a sport to practice.

At the emblematic Panathenaic Stadium
– 19/11

Students of the 2nd High School of Intercultural Education made an excursion to the Panathenaic Stadium. The students were informed about the rich history of the Stadium, the history of its construction, but also of its restoration, its architecture and location, as well as the role it has played in many important moments for sport and culture of Greece. Of course, special mention was made of the Olympic Games, with which the Stadium is closely connected. The students told us that they particularly liked the interior of the Museum, but were even more excited about the exterior of the emblematic Stadium.
