“Together in Sport” is a breakthrough project, about to take action once again, following its outstanding success in the period 2021-2022 that managed to bring together more than 9,000 refugee and local community children. “Together in Sport” was co-funded by the European Asylum, Migration and Integration Fund (AMIF) and the German Federal Office for Migration and Refugees. The kick-off event* of “Together in Sport – Phase II” will take place on Wednesday, December 6, 2023 at 12:00-14:00 at the Amphitheatre of the Hellenic Olympic Committee (52 Dimitriou Vikela Ave., Chalandri), bringing together all the actors that contributed to the success of the project in the period 2021-2022 and providing an outline of “Together in Sport – Phase II”.
This new phase brings an array of fresh sport and recreational activities into the mix, uniting children with and without refugee background through the power of sports, overcoming cultural and language barriers.
“Together in Sport-Phase II” represents the next stage of the project. It is implemented by METAdrasi, the Hellenic Olympic Committee, and the German Olympic Sports Confederation (DOSB). The German Federal Office for Migration and Refugees (BAMF) supports with coordination and co-funding. The project again applied for co-funding from the AMIF (2021-2027).
The action is carried out in cooperation with municipalities across various regions of Greece and includes:
- Regular weekly training sessions in Olympic sports, conducted by certified coaches from the Hellenic Olympic Committee in municipal sports facilities and clubs.
- Weekly cultural courses, such as theater, music, painting and dancing lessons, among others.
- Mobilization and involvement of children in important contemporary issues related to environmental protection, climate change, healthy eating, and internet safety.
- Training programs for employees of public and private institutions, organizations, schools, along with parents, focusing on child protection issues.
Over the next three years, children and young refugees aged up to 21 years, their peers from local communities, along with minors and young adults with physical or cognitive disabilities will come together as “Together in Sport” aims to bridge differences and strengthen social cohesion and inclusiveness.
