“Together in Sport – Phase II” at Refugee Week events
“Together in Sport – Phase II” made a dynamic appearance at Refugee Week events again this year. It all started with a wonderful sports and cultural celebration in Schimatari, organized by METAdrasi and the Hellenic Olympic Committee in collaboration with the Municipality of Tanagra on Wednesday, June 18. On June 20, World Refugee Day, “Together in Sport” participated in the community’s big celebration at KAPAPS Park.
Environmental, experiential workshops
On Thursday, May 22, and Friday, May 30, students from the 35th Elementary School and the 87th Experimental Intercultural Elementary School of Athens, respectively, had the pleasure of attending an environmental experiential workshop. METAdrasi and the “Together in Sport – Phase II,” in collaboration with the organization EARTH, gave children the opportunity to come into contact with nature, strengthening their environmental awareness and adopting behaviors and habits with a small ecological footprint.
“Together in Sport – Phase II” at the 133rd Primary School of Athens
One of the most beautiful sporting events of “Together in Sport – Phase II” took place at the 133rd Primary School of Athens, a multicultural, colorful school that embraces diversity. The school’s students practiced Olympic sports such as fencing, boxing, table tennis, and handball alongside great athletes and coaches. At the end of the sports activities, souvenirs of the project were distributed to all the children.
Daily soccer tournament
On Monday, May 26, 2025, a daily soccer tournament was held between the teams of Together in Sport, Colonos FC, and Plato FC. The three teams, which shared the Plato Academy pitch during the season, faced each other in three 20-minute matches, where the values of fair play and passion for the game prevailed. After the matches, all the children received commemorative gifts and made plans to meet again for the new season.
Social Waste Concert
On Sunday, June 22, METAdrasi and “Together in Sport – Phase II” attended the Social Waste concert at Technopolis in the Municipality of Athens. The children enjoyed a unique spectacle as they had the opportunity to be on stage, behind the artists. The music featured traditional instruments from the wider Mediterranean culture, with their own melodies and rhythms combined with socio-political lyrics and the dynamism of hip-hop. A dynamic stage presence, accompanied by the sounds of the lute, ancient lyre, and other Mediterranean instruments, gave the participants an unforgettable experience.
At the FIBA Women’s EuroBasket quarterfinals
Refugee children and their supervisors had the opportunity to watch the FIBA Women’s EuroBasket 2025 quarterfinals at the Peace and Friendship Stadium. The children played, drew, and had their photos taken at the various stands set up by the event’s sponsors around the perimeter of the court. Above all, however, they enjoyed watching top-level basketball in a very cool environment.
European Diving Championships
On Wednesday, June 25, “Together in Sport – Phase II” was at the OAKA for the European Youth Diving Championships. The Championship, organized by the Hellenic Swimming Federation, is a leading institution for young and talented divers from all over Europe, attracting the interest of children who had the opportunity to watch a sport different from the usual ones up close for the first time. At the end of the event, commemorative gifts were distributed to all the children.
Visit to the Industrial Gas Museum
On May 28, 2025, the first cultural event of “Together in Sport – Phase II” was successfully held in the Municipality of Tanagra, in the form of a day trip to the “Industrial Gas Museum,” in which the 1st Primary School of Schimatari participated. The school’s students were given the opportunity to “travel” back in time, learning firsthand how industry operated in the past and participating in educational programs.
Music and movement workshop
The first event within the Oinofyta camp was successfully held as part of “Together in Sport – Phase II”. The music and movement workshop, which was the first event, was organized by Ms. Barota, a distinguished professional in the area, and her colleague, who made sure to provide the children living in the Oinofyta camp with an unforgettable experience. The children enjoyed some wonderful moments of carefree fun, participating in dancing and games with fabrics.

Sports and cultural activities in Lesbos
Mytilene has been getting into the swing of volleyball and taekwondo with weekly training sessions for children. Young artists are finding opportunities to express themselves through art classes.
Sports and cultural activities in Tanagra
Weekly basketball and kickboxing training sessions continue with undiminished interest in Tanagra, as do theater and modern dance classes. The children eagerly await the training sessions, in which they participate with great enthusiasm.
“Together in Sport – Phase II” is implemented by METAdrasi (project coordinator), the Hellenic Olympic Committee, and the German Olympic Sports Confederation (DOSB). The German Federal Office for Migration and Refugees (BAMF) supports with coordination and co-funding. The project is also co-funded by the AMIF (2021-2027).
