“Together in Sport”, a unique project that has given the opportunity to more than 6,000 refugee children and children from local communities to participate together in sports and recreational activities, continues with great success in the region of Attica and the municipalities of Ioannina, Kavala, Mytilene and Drama.
In this context, and through the excellent cooperation that has been developed, the Deputy Mayor of Education, Sports, Social Policy and Gender Equality Policy of the Municipality of Drama, Ms. Anastasia Toliou, the President of METAdrasi, Ms. Lora Pappa and the Treasurer of the Hellenic Olympic Committee, member of the Executive Committee and Dean of the Panathenaic Stadium, Mr. Antonis Nikolopoulos, held a meeting at METAdrasi’s offices, on Tuesday 22nd November 2022, for the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding.
It is extremely important for the children living in the refugee camp of Drama, that, thanks to “Together in Sport”, they get out of the camp, even for a few hours, to get to know various sports, as well as the olympic values, and most importantly, to get close to the children of the local community. Through their participation in sporting activities and the example of coexistence set by the children, values such as respect and team spirit are spread, social cohesion is strengthened and the reservations of local communities towards refugee children are reduced.
“Together in Sport”, initiated and co-funded by the German Federal Office for Migration and Refugees, is implemented by METAdrasi in cooperation with the Hellenic Olympic Committee, the German Olympic Sports Confederation and the participation of municipalities all over Greece. The project is co-funded by the Asylum, Migration and Integration Fund (AMIF).
