When education, creativity and solidarity come together

Metadrasi - METAdrasi Cyprus

Ζahra is 28 years old, from Afghanistan, and she carries with her a wealth of talent and determination.

Having studied Fashion Design at the Fashion School of Amir Kabir University and holding a four–year degree in Textile Engineering from Isfahan University of Technology in Iran, she has a strong academic and creative background.

Today, as an asylum seeker in Cyprus and resident of the Pournara First Reception Center, Zahra is learning Greek in METAdrasi Cyprus’ Greek language class for adults in the Center.

Recently, she created a beautiful drawing of the human body with the names of its parts in Greek to decorate the classroom. Her work not only brightens the space, but also supports her classmates in learning new vocabulary – a wonderful example of how education, creativity and solidarity come together.

The Greek language courses provided by METAdrasi Cyprus aim to help asylum seekers and refugees develop communication skills and self-confidence and take a first step towards integration. Zahra’s story is one of many that remind us why language learning and access to education matter.

METAdrasi Cyprus began providing Greek language courses at the Kofinou and Pournara centers in February 2024. Since July 2025, educational activities for adults and children at the Pournara First Reception Center have been implemented in collaboration with the Asylum Service.
