The number of refugees worldwide surpassed 108 million at the end of 2022. This number is up 19.1 million from a year earlier and is the largest year-on-year increase ever recorded. At the same time, and according to the predictions of experts, the number of refugees is expected to increase even more in the coming years due to the effects of climate change.
On the occasion of today, let us reflect that these are our fellow human beings who were not uprooted from their land in search for “a better life”, but because they were left with no other choice!
