In front of the tombstone of Fylonoe, the children paid attention to their teacher as she was narrating her story and learned more about the burial customs of antiquity in the late 5th and 4th centuries BC

METAdrasi’s refugee students of ancient Greek language participated in an original and most interesting initiative to get acquainted with the ancient Greek culture, by visiting the Archaeological Museum of Athens on Thursday July 27th. Accompanied by their teacher, the children discovered with great curiosity and awe the rich collections of one of the most important museums in the world.

Being part of a sophisticated approach instigated by their teaching programme, coupled with their lessons of ancient Greek language, to better understand the ancient Greek civilization, the young visitors expressed their vast admiration as they faced the exhibits for the very first time. Some of them were even overwhelmed as they visited the collection of Egyptian and Eastern Antiquities, with the unique exhibits from their own country, Egypt; the only one of the great Mediterranean civilizations other than the Greek represented in the Museum.

The visit to the Archaeological Museum of Athens is part of the activities of METAdrasi’s Homework and Creative Activities Centre in Athens, which operates within the framework of the programme “All Children In Education”, a UNICEF Greece initiative, co-funded by the European Union and implemented by a number of partners, including METAdrasi.
