A “bridge” of safety for children arriving in the country alone has been created by METAdrasi through its Accompaniment Support for Unaccompanied Minors activity. Since 2011, our Accompaniment Support team has been by the side of unaccompanied children at every step of their journey: they organize and support the process, ensure their protection, and make sure that the trip to the appropriate accommodation facility is carried out with dignity and care.
As part of this effort, another important mission has been completed: a total of 42 children were transferred from Kos and Leros to the port of Piraeus and, from there, continued safely to facilities on the mainland in Athens, Thessaloniki, and Ioannina.
Since November 2025, METAdrasi’s Escorting Missions for Unaccompanied Children activity has been implemented within the framework of the project Strengthening Protection Systems for Unaccompanied Migrant Children and Vulnerable Women Applicants and Beneficiaries of International Protection. The project is funded by the National Development Program for the 2021–2025 programming period, through the Special Coordination and Management Service for Migration and Home Affairs Programmes of the Ministry of Migration and Asylum. From 1 November to date, nearly 800 unaccompanied children have been escorted, 360 of them in January alone.
In this effort, the contribution of volunteers is significant, as is the support provided through the offer of free transportation by Blue Star Ferries, Hellenic Seaways, and Anek Lines (Attica Group). Attica Group has stood by METAdrasi for years and has once again provided free tickets for the children and their escorts for another year. We thank them warmly!
