ANNOUNCEMENT – March 29, 2024

Metadrasi - METAdrasi EN pos RGB WEB

Regarding the article “Lost for Words: Lack of interpreters puts asylum seekers’ lives on hold in Greece” published on March 27, by Solomon, METAdrasi expresses its concern about the motives of this particular publication, which seems to be an attack on the reputation and the work of the Organization.

Despite the fact that none of the asylum seekers giving their testimony in the report explicitly refers to a METAdrasi’s interpreter, and despite the fact that we stressed to the journalist the necessity to investigate the incidents in order to clarify when they took place and whether they concerned interpreters of our Organization, unfortunately, the article seems to have been published with negligence and haste.

The lack of knowledge about the role of the interpreter, who is not allowed to inform himself or herself about the asylum procedures for which the officials of the Ministry of Migration and Asylum are responsible, is also obvious.

Questions about the real aim and intentions of the publication remain reasonable and for this reason METAdrasi reserves the right to take any legal action.
