What happens when you need help… but there’s no common language?
At this year’s Common Grounds Festival, METAdrasi joined forces with Ben & Jerry’s, giving visitors the opportunity to better understand a reality faced every day by people who have been forced to leave their country: the need to communicate in an unfamiliar environment where no one speaks their language.
Through an interactive activity, participants were asked to seek help and communicate using only cards written in Farsi, Arabic, Urdu and French.
This experience helped them gain a deeper understanding of how difficult it is to express a need when the language you speak is not understood.
Interpretation is not merely an essential service. It is a vital bridge of communication that ensures people can access essential services, support and protection.
