In the special spaces created by METAdrasi at the Asylum Service in Athens and Thessaloniki, mothers can breast-feed and take care of their babies, while little children have the opportunity to play in a safe environment and be creatively occupied by our team members, with the valuable support of our volunteers. Together with the children we play, we have fun, we explore, we learn.

The subjects we recently touched on are various: Greek language and traditions, world geography, recycling, nutrition and dental hygiene, colours and shapes, works of famous painters… Additionally, we made collages and other crafts, we took yoga lessons – a kind offer by two Yazidi girls – and we participated in stress-relieving art therapy activities!

Warm thanks to UNICEF for the baby care supplies, the educational material, the booklets in English, Arabic and Farsi and the many toys!

Until today, in METAdrasi’s Mother and Child Spaces, more than 10,000 mothers and 20,000 children, from newborns to 16-year-olds, have found care and support.

Mother and Child Spaces operate thanks to the kind hospitality and support of the Asylum Service, with the valuable support of UNICEF and funding by the European Commission’s Civil Protection & Humanitarian Aid Operations Department (ECHO).
