On New Year’s Eve, young people at the Closed Controlled Access Center of Samos came together to cut the traditional cake, singing, as Katerina, METAdrasi’s teacher, played the keyboard. In an atmosphere of security, love, and warmth, they sent a meaningful farewell to 2023, as well as to their memories of their challenging journey to Greece.

Meanwhile, at the Facility of Ritsona the students engaged in discussions with their teachers about the Christmas customs, celebrations, and traditional dishes from their own countries. Accompanied by the sound of traditional carols, they exchanged greetings and decorated a different tree, an olive branch, the symbol of peace, with Christmas balls and cards they made in the class. Wishes for a Happy and Peaceful New Year were heard in all the participants’ languages, expressing a common hope and expectation for the year ahead.

METAdrasi’s courses for adults in Samos and Ritsona are implemented with the support of UNHCR.
