The aspiring musicians of our shelter in Chios

02.04.2021

The unaccompanied children of the Transit Accommodation Facility in Chios, enchanted by the sounds of the violin, the viola and the cello, decided to follow in the footsteps of great musicians such as Beethoven and Vivaldi. The presentation of a musical performance, by the German volunteer group Hangarmusik Vial 2021, was the occasion for our children to get acquainted with another type of music, unknown until today to them. The melody and the sounds of the instruments filled them with unprecedented emotions, opening at the same time another window in the world of music.

There was great interest in participating in the courses, resulting in the creation of two groups which attend classes twice a week. Our aspiring musicians are eagerly anticipating each lesson that will bring them closer to being able to play like their teachers.

For now, they are practicing with great success in learning the strings, keeping the rhythm in one of their favorite compositions, Beethoven’s “Für Elise”.

METAdrasi’s Transit Accommodation Facility in Chios is funded since June 2020 by EEA Grants in the framework of the Asylum and Migration programme.
