Art workshop at the Museum of Cycladic Art
Seven children from Ukraine visited the Museum of Cycladic Art, where they discovered the history of the Cycladic civilization. The young visitors were particularly impressed with the collection’s Cycladic figurines and vases. They also participated in an art workshop, during which they had the opportunity to express their thoughts and feelings about their tour of the Museum.
Sports event at Eurohoops Academy
134 children participated in a sports event co-organized by Together in Sport, the Hellenic Olympic Committee and Eurohoops Academy. The focus of the event was basketball, with many children, despite being unfamiliar with the sport, managing to play and have fun with the help of their instructors and teammates. Thodoris Papaloukas, former basketball player and Director of the Eurohoops Academy, honoured us with his presence.
IOANNINA
Shadow theatre performance
The shadow theatre performance “The Christmas of Karagiozis… and geronto-Dimitrakis” was presented by METAdrasi, within the framework of the Together in Sport programme, in collaboration with the Sports Department of the Municipality of Ioannina. The free performance was attended by more than 300 children and their escorts, who had a lot of fun watching Karagiozis being influenced by the spirit of the holidays.
KAVALA
Pottery workshop
Our children participated in a workshop of pottery and painting of Christmas decorations, which was held in collaboration with the Centre for Creative Activities “Ta Exypna Molyvia”. The young artists made colourful clay ornaments, while following the adults’ instructions and helping each other.
Christmas Tree Lighting in Panagia
Traditional carols and songs were sung by the choir of the Music School of Kavala during the Christmas Tree lighting at the Old Music Hall of Panagia. All the children visited Santa Claus’ house, where they were photographed in his arms and received their gifts. They were then left in the hands of the facepainters, who coloured their faces with festive designs, and they had many homemade Christmas sweets.
Inauguration of basketball court in Faliro Park
The inauguration of the new basketball court in Faliro Park was successfully completed, as part of the Together in Sport programme. The inauguration’s sports activities were joined by children from basketball academies of Kavala, namely from the Basketball Union, Agia Varvara and Asteras Kavalas, as well as children from the “Campeones” team of the Kavala Accommodation Facility. We were honoured with the presence of the Deputy Mayor of Education of the Municipality of Kavala, Apostolos Moumtsakis, the Deputy Mayor of Sports, Konstantinos Vakirtzis, as well as the Panhellenic Fencing Champion and Representative of the Supreme Military Sports Council of Hellenic Armed Forces, Sotiris Anifantis.
Fencing demonstration
The lucky students of two schools of Kavala had the chance to practice fencing under the guidance of Sotiris Anifantis and Dora Gountoura, from the Supreme Military Sports Council of Hellenic Armed Forces. At the end of the training, every young athlete received a medal and many more souvenirs. The action was honoured with the presence of the Deputy Mayor of Education of the Municipality of Kavala, Apostolos Moumtsakis, and the Deputy Mayor of Sports of the Municipality of Kavala, Konstantinos Vakirtzis.
Swim meet
A swimming demonstration was held at the Kavala Indoor Swimming Pool Centre, which was co-organized by the Together in Sport programme and the Kavala Marine Club of Water Sports. Our young athletes swam 25 meters and received a warm round of applause from all the attendees.
BOEOTIA
Sports activities at the 1st Primary School of Schimatari
Six sports were introduced to the students of six primary schools through an interactive event co-organized by Together in Sport and the Supreme Military Sports Council of Hellenic Armed Forces. More specifically, the event was joined by students in the 5th and 6th grade of the 1st Primary School of Schimatari, where the activity took place, of the 2nd and 3rd Primary School of the same region, as well as of the Primary Schools of Tanagra, Oinofyta and Oinoi. Renowned Greek athletes presented the sports to the children and, at the end, handed them autographs, medals and other souvenirs.
Introduction to six sports at the 3rd Primary School of Thebes
Students of three Primary Schools tested their skills in six different sports, within the framework of an event co-organized by Together in Sport and the Supreme Military Sports Council of Hellenic Armed Forces. The event was attended by students in the 5th and 6th grade of the 3rd Primary School of Thebes, where the activity took place, as well as of the 5th and 6th Primary School. The children had the opportunity to practice next to distinguished Greek athletes, from whom they also received autographs, medals and other souvenirs.
DRAMA
Handball training
A handball training was organized by Together in Sport, in cooperation with the Centre for Creative Activities “Paizo & Mathaino”. Our young athletes experienced for the first time the intensity of handball, as they had never tried it with so many children before. Once the game started, the court was filled with the sounds of children’s voices and cheers.
Visit to the Astronomical Observatory of Nikiforos, Drama
The Together in Sport team and the Centre for Creative Activities “Molyvoparea” visited the Astronomical Observatory in Nikiforos, which is housed with Gymnasium-Lykeio of Nikiforos, Drama. There, among other things, the children had the opportunity to have a look through the 14-inch automated celestron telescope, discovering the secrets of the universe. They were then presented with experiments based on electricity, gravity and other laws of physics.
Training session at the Municipal Stadium of Drama “Alekos Frousios”
A joint training session took place at the Municipal Stadium of Drama “Alekos Frousios”, with the participation of children from the Drama Accommodation Facility and the Classical Sports Association of Drama. The children ran on the athletic tracks and tested their skills in long jump and hurdles, before ending their session with a few mat exercises. The Club’s President, Stelios Kouromichalakis, discussed with the children about their experience and, seeing them equally excited as the Club’s children, urged them to keep coming to the training sessions.
Traditional dance class at the Lyceum Club of Hellenic Women of Drama
The children of the Drama Accommodation Facility had a traditional dance class at the regional Lyceum Club of Hellenic Women, where they got in touch with their peers from the local community. The children danced all together, following the teachers’ instructions. As many Arabic songs were also played, the children from the Facility showed the others the steps to some of their countries’ traditional dances.
MYTILENE
Christmas celebration in Loutra, Lesvos
After putting on their hats and attaching bells on their shoes’ laces, the children started singing their way through the village, accompanied by a live band playing Christmas carols. On their return, they enjoyed hot chocolate, traditional sweets and freshly roasted chestnuts, just before the music and dance activities began. At the end, Santa Claus handed gifts to all the children, who eagerly opened them and found, among other things, a filled Together in Sport backpack.
