Two young refugees supported by METAdrasi taking part in the 4th Panhellenic Student Festival “Nei Omirides” in Chios!
An unaccompanied boy hosted at METAdrasi’s shelter in Chios presented to the audience the moving story he wrote, inspired by the Odyssey.
The Prologue of the Odyssey was read in Arabic by a student from our Non-Formal Education School.
Back in March 2025, we launched an exciting project at our accommodation center for unaccompanied children: reading and discussing passages from the Odyssey, exploring its themes and characters, and then helping M. shape the foundation of his own story.
Together, we explored methods of storytelling and character development until he created his very own adventure in Arabic. With his active involvement, the text was translated and carefully edited into Greek—ensuring that his unique style and voice shined through.
In June, thanks to the encouragement of Festival Director Ms. Tsiropina, we added another magical element: live background music by Markella, a talented student of the Chios Music School. Through rehearsals and teamwork, M. saw his story come alive in a truly enchanting way.
The Festival closed with a wonderful party filled with food, music, and laughter – where both M. and our student connected with peers from across Greece and Spain. A heartfelt thank you to everyone who made this experience possible – a true testament to the power of storytelling, creativity, and community!
