The unaccompanied children of our Samos shelter get in touch with the special natural beauty of the island

16.03.2022

The children of our Transit Accommodation Facility in Samos had the opportunity to get in touch with the special natural beauty and the fauna of the island with their visit to the area of Alyki in Psili Ammos. The children had expressed the desire to see the flamingos up close, as well as the other birds that visit this area, turning it into an earthly paradise.

Walking carefully so as not to make any noise, they tried to get as close as possible to the flamingos. When they got close enough, they sat very carefully to watch these beautiful birds dip their long necks into the water for food. They were particularly impressed by the way they stood in the water, with one leg bent, but also by their impressive flight.

Filled with images and wildflowers in their hands, the children returned home to discuss in more detail how the flamingos feed, when they migrate, but also how they get their wonderful colour.
